Every machinery develops snags over time. No matter how foolproof the design and how much care we take, something will eventually stall, stutter and stop. Submersible pumps have their own share of troubles.
Although these pumps are designed especially to function in fairly hostile conditions, snags can still occur.
The problems here can range from overload to snags with submersible flat cable India.
Some of the problems may require an overhaul of the pump, while some can be rectified with some quick fix. Here are some common problems (along with their diagnosis and solution) according to their symptoms:
- Problem starting the motor
- There could be three reasons behind this:
- The pressure switch is damaged.
To find out, switch off the pressure switch. Then check the voltage at the switch. A voltage drop that is the same as the line voltage means that there is a contact problem at the switch. Check if a simple clean-up works. Otherwise, you may have to replace the pressure switch.
Failure of overload protection
A quick check of the fuse box or the circuit breaker will show whether there is any protection and if so, whether it was tripped or blown. A tripped breaker can be simply pulled up, but a blown fuse will have to be replaced.
The pump is not getting any power
You can check the power supply to the overload protection box by placing a voltmeter on the submersible flat cable India that is going into the submersible pump. If you see no power, it is time to check the overall power and call your supplier.
Pump starts up too much: The reasons could range from:
- Pressure switch is defective or not ill-placed.
- A visual scan for defects should suffice to determine any defects. Readjust the switch where you can. Replace it where you can’t.
Plumbing leak or discharge line leak.
Inspect the service line in the first case and the discharge line valve in the second case. In the first case usually a replacement is required. However, the valve leak can usually be fixed.
- Air volume control could have plugged.
- Check it to make sure and replace if it is damaged.
Leakage at the pressure tank above water level.
To find out, brush the tank surface with a soapy mix. If you see bubbles coming out, it means air is escaping. This will need replacement of the pump.
- The snifter valve has plugged.
- Examine the valve and replace if damaged.
The overload protector keeps tripping
A simple trip can be fixed. But if it keeps tripping, check for ambient temperature. Heat can cause breakers to trip. Ensure that the box is under some kind of shade. It could also be a voltage problem. Check the line terminal and find out if you are using the right size of submersible flat cable India.
Pump does not stop running
- Probable reasons are:
- A defective pressure switch.
Sometimes switch points stick to each other, which causes the switch to be locked in a closed position. You can do try to repair it cleaning the points. If this fails, replace the switch.
- A leakage at the drop line.
- Check the pipe for leakages and replace any damaged section.
- The water level is too low.
Reduce the the output flow and wait for the levels to go up. Now restart the pump. If this solution works, keep the valve at this restricted setting. If this does not work, lower the submersible pump.
Damage to the parts.
This can happen due to the corrosives in the water. If the pump shuts off at lower the pressure switch setting, the cause is probably damaged parts. Replacement of parts will be required in this case.
- Pump works but with very low or no output
- Pump could be air-locked.
- This will rectify if you start and stop pump at a repeated loop for sometime.
- Low water level.
- Restrict the pump output and when it reaches the right level, re-start. If this works, leave the valve at this setting.
- Backward installation of the discharge line.
- The alignment can be checked according to the marked arrow.
- Leakage at the drop pipe.
- Inspect the pipe and replace damaged parts.
- Pump intake screen blockage.
- Check the screen for any blockage. Clean the screen and replace it.
- Motor shaft has loosened.
- Inspect the motor shaft. If you see any loose connection, simply tighten them up.
